Press Releases DUKE UNIVERSITY HEALTH SYSTEM TO IMPLEMENT CLINICALLY OPTIMIZED, ADVANCED AUTHENTICATION SOLUTION FROM SENTILLION Sentillion Tap & Go Leverages Duke’s Existing Investment in Passive Proximity Badges; Provides Strong Security While Speeding Information Systems Access for Authorized Users ANDOVER, MA - June 9, 2008 - Duke University Health System is deploying a new advanced authentication capability from Sentillion, called Sentillion Tap & Go™, to streamline information systems access for its 14,000 clinical users while maintaining strong data and application security. Duke will deploy Sentillion Tap & Go on over 3,100 shared workstations. Duke, one of the elite medical centers in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report, is already live on Vergence, Sentillion’s clinical workstation solution which includes Single Sign-On (SSO) and context management. Now with the implementation of Tap & Go physicians and other caregivers will be able to roam throughout a defined work area and sign on to different workstations simply by tapping their standard-issue passive proximity identification badge against a workstation reader. The system will dramatically speed and simplify clinicians’ access to vital patient records and software applications that have become essential to their professional effectiveness. “It is rare in enterprise IT today to be able to plug and play two disparate pieces of technology,” observed Karen Rourk, Director of Ambulatory EMR and Desktop Development at Duke University Health System. “Sentillion Tap & Go makes our identity and access management fully complementary to our physical security system. When we implemented Vergence we experienced a dramatic savings in the amount of time it took caregivers to sign in and access their applications and now with Sentillion Tap & Go we can further reduce the time it takes to authenticate by as much as 50% -- something we know our caregivers will appreciate.” Sentillion Tap & Go is a patent-pending, advanced authentication capability that leverages standard passive proximity cards to deliver the simplest sign-on process in the healthcare industry today. Sentillion Tap & Go is easy to adopt because it leverages the same badge that organizations use for physical access. Caregivers can now use one badge for entry into the parking lot, building access, as well as single sign-on to their workstation. With Sentillion Tap & Go, users perform a two-part authentication at the beginning of their shift by tapping their passive proximity card against a card reader and entering their password or providing other verifiable authentication such as a fingerprint biometric. Once this two-part authentication is completed, Sentillion’s technology initiates an authentication grace period. During the grace period, the user can access any other shared workstation in a defined area, such as the emergency department, simply by tapping their badge against a reader. Users only need to perform the two-part authentication when their grace period expires or when they move to an area of the hospital with a different Sentillion Tap & Go policy.
